Donkey Kong Country Returns HD tech analysis, including frame rate and resolution
Digital Foundry just went up with a new technical analysis for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, which covers elements such as frame rate and resolution. Forever Entertainment handled the port which offers improvements over the Wii original in many ways, but also falls short in some areas.
Here’s the roundup of tidbits:
– Opening FMV has been massively improved
– Very true to the original design
– New textures, modified effects, and improved character models
– Underlying scene geometry mostly unchanged, but with fresh coat of paint
– Resolution is native 1080p in docked mode
– 720p in portable mode
– Water rendering is largely better here
– Some visual effects missing in previous trailers were fixed
– Still minor oddities like being shot out of a barrel looking worse and sunset missing in the third stage
– Loading times about twice as long as the Wii version
– Built with Unity
– Frame rate targets 60 FPS
– It can slip below that here and there such as during the first boss fight
