Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots dev on decision to bring the series back, initially considered a port
The developers behind Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots have spoken about the decision to bring back the franchise.
This was a milestone release for a couple of reasons. First, it’s been several years since the franchise has seen a new entry – and even longer if you don’t count the 2019 VR game. Additionally, this is the first time that Everybody’s Golf has gone multiplatform, meaning it’s on a Nintendo system for the first time.
When asked by Japanese magazine Famitsu how Bandai Namco ended up working on Everybody’s Golf, which was originally a PlayStation-published series, producer Tomokazu Fukazawa said:
“We wanted to show the world the charm of this IP that SIE had created, and in our communications with SIE, they allowed us to borrow Everybody’s Golf, the golf game that has been beloved nationally for a long time. While that was happening, since I like golf, I became involved with Everybody’s Golf.”
Fukazawa was also asked about what the project was like initially. In his response, he revealed that a port was initially planned.
Fukazawa told the Japanese magazine:
“We originally planned this as a complete port of a previous title, but we wanted more people to enjoy this game, we used the original’s good points as stepping stones, and added elements such as new control schemes or new modes, and thus the game was released as Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots.”
Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots is out now on Nintendo Switch. If you’re interested in getting your hands on a physical copy, we have details about that here.
