Extra Life 2013 is over! Final details on the streaming schedule, prizes, events, and more
Catch the stream here (8AM central time, November 2nd)
Hey guys! We’re just three days away from this year’s Extra Life 2013 gaming marathon for charity, and we have one last (okay, maybe the second to last) update for you on what we’re doing, when we’re doing it, and why you should consider participating. If you have no idea what Extra Life 2013 is, please check out this post.
The final schedule for the event has been worked out, and you can view it after the break. It includes things like video game jeopardy (where we ask the questions and you guys answer them), Ask Seaman Anything (a Skype call-in segment), The Walking Dead LIVE! (yet another call-in segment), and much more. Please take a look at it after the break.
Oh, and we have PRIZES FOR YOU. That’s right: You can win prizes by donating or participating in the event in a very intuitive way thought up by Jack. Here’s how it’s going to work:
For every dollar you donate to the cause, you’ll get one pretend digital raffle ticket.
For every Jeopardy question you answer correctly, you’ll get one pretend digital raffle ticket
For every time you call in to the show, you’ll get one pretend digital raffle ticket
We’ll also be giving away raffle tickets to people that we consider outstanding participants. So if you do something cool or you make us laugh or whatever, we’ll give you extra raffle tickets!
When all is said and done, all of the raffle tickets will be bundled up and we’ll do drawings for fabulous prizes. Most (if not all) of the prizes are game download codes for Wii U, 3DS, PS3, Steam, etc etc. I can’t promise that we’ll give away anything crazy (no game systems or huge retail games or anything), but hopefully the ability to win some neato games will be enticing enough to get you to participate. More details to come on the day of.

Event Descriptions
Video Game Jeopardy!
You all know about Jeopardy, right? Well, this is sort of like that, only all of the questions (err… answers) are about video games. We’ll read off questions that we came up with in a variety of categories, and you guys will chime in using the text chat on Twitch or Youtube (depends which one we use). First person to chime in with the answer (in the correct form of a question) will get a raffle ticket to win a prize later on. Hooray!
Discussion #1: What makes a 3D platformer?
We all like 3D platformers, but why do we think they’re good? Banjo Kazooie, after all, was mostly empty worlds that you walked around in collecting things. What was fun about that? Or Mario Galaxy? What’s the difference between them on a fundamental level? That’s what we’ll be talking about!
Discussion #1: Which 3D Zelda game is the best?
This one is pretty straightforward: Of all the 3D Zelda games to come out (Ocarina of Time through Skyward Sword), which one is the best overall? It’s a hot discussion on our podcast, and one that I think will make some people angry.
The Walking Dead LIVE!
You know Telltale’s game The Walking Dead? The one with all of the really hard decisions? We figured it’d be fun to let you guys call in and pick the text choices that pop up to see where we all end up as a group. Assuming Skype works, you can call in with a microphone, chat for a minute, and then make your choice. With any luck we can make it to the end as a group.
Laura’s Horrah Hour
We mostly just thought it’d be fun to make Laura play a scary game for an hour, since she doesn’t like to be scared. So she’ll be playing ZombiU.
Discussion #3– How Important is the traditional concept of “gameplay”?
As Nintendo fans, a lot of us think gameplay is king when it comes to a game. Zelda and Mario, after all, are the kings of good gameplay, and they’re some of the best games ever made! But what about games without gameplay? What about something like Phoenix Wright or EarthBound, whose gameplay is largely incidental? Or other JRPGs? We’ll talk about this into the wee hours of the morning.
Ask Seaman Anything
Seaman is an old Dreamcast game in which you can talk to a man-fish thing. It was sort of like a really weird, psychedelic Hey You! Pikachu! for the Dreamcast, and we wanted to give people the chance to call in and chat with him if they so desired.
If you have any other questions, ask away in the comments. Otherwise please think about participating and donating!
