F-Zero 99

The lineup of “99” games on Switch continues, with Nintendo just announcing F-Zero 99. It launches later today.

F-Zero 99, which builds on the original title, is a multiplayer racing game in which 99 players vie for first place. Learn more about it in the following overview:

Line up with 98 other F-Zero machines and race to the finish in this thrilling take on the original Super NES™ game. Keep an eye on your power meter as you boost and bash, because speed is just as important as survival. Defend yourself with a Spin Attack and collect Super Sparks to breeze past the competition on the elevated Skyway. The F-ZERO 99 game is available only to active Nintendo Switch Online members.

The core F-Zero 99 mode is just one way to race at breakneck speeds. Mini Prix and Grand Prix modes appear on a set schedule and challenge you to compete and qualify in a series of races. Team Battle and the extra-tough Pro Tracks mode rotate throughout the day. Prepare yourself in Practice Mode and race against your ghost.

Boost your Skill Rating by excelling in races and take on challenges to unlock customization options. Make your F-Zero machine your own with alternate colors, decals, and boost effects. Complete achievements in your Pilot Card and receive different unlockable backdrops and display badges.

Tetris 99 kicked off this style of online-centric competitive games in 2019, and was originally intended as a bonus for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Since then we’ve since Super Mario Bros. 35 and Pac-Man 99, though they were relatively short-lived overall. Super Mario Bros. 35 only lasted a few months to promote the franchise’s anniversary while Pac-Man 99 is shutting down next month after debuting in April 2021.
