Final Fantasy 7 update 1.03

The retro re-release of Final Fantasy 7 recently received an update on major platforms, including Nintendo Switch where it’s now at version 1.03.

Square Enix acknowledged the patch on its website. According the official notice, the company has removed all previous sharing feature restrictions. We’ll touch on this a bit further, but you’ve been warned: we’re about to go into heavy spoiler territory, so keep that in mind before proceeding.

Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most acclaimed games of all time. It also has one of the most-discussed story scenes in which Aerith, who players are able to use as a party member, is killed off by Sephiroth. Even if you haven’t played Final Fantasy 7, you’ve probably heard about this before. However, up until now, it’s not been possible to capture anything related to that scene for the release on Nintendo Switch and other platforms.

After installing the Final Fantasy 7 version 1.03 update, players can share that moment if they’d like to do so. It’s unclear what motivated Square Enix to change its mind, but that patch is now out there.

Thanks to Square Enix for the news above. Final Fantasy VII is available on the Nintendo Switch eShop worldwide. You can also pick up a physical copy that also contains Final Fantasy VIII Remastered here.
