Ubisoft reportedly cancels Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel
VGC is reporting that Ubisoft has cancelled plans for a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising. The site’s report is based on what it heard from “multiple development sources”.
Rumors of a potential sequel have popped up in the past. VGC says that Ubisoft Quebec did some early work on a new entry, “but company leadership ultimately decided to cancel it earlier this month due to perceived challenges around establishing the IP.”
Speculation circulated last year that a new Immortals Fenyx Rising game would be based on Hawaiian Polynesian culture, and less of a proper sequel. It was said to be not as inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with a potential launch happening in 2025.
The report goes on to say that the future of Immortals Fenyx Rising was up in the air after Ubisoft “decided to pivot towards its most prominent brands.” Currently Assassin’s Creed is a big focus as the company is developing at least six entries in the franchise.
While Immortals Fenyx Rising was well-received overall, it didn’t light the sales charts on fire. VGC reports that the game’s success came from discounts. The title ultimately wasn’t one of Ubisoft’s heavy hitters – sales in Europe were roughly 70 percent compared to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s performance over a similar timeframe.
