Japan’s best-selling games of August 2024

New data gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of August 2024.

No new games cracked the top five, but the Switch version of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicles did appear at #8. The Bandai Namco release sold 23,234 copies on Nintendo’s console in its first month. Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025 was the overall top seller.

Here’s the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of August 2024:

2. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 46,683 / 5,971,181
3. [NSW] Nintendo Switch Sports – 39,555 / 1,396,628
4. [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 35,343 / 7,885,519
5. [NSW] Minecraft – 34,402 / 3,612,660

As for hardware, Switch continues its run as the best-selling platform with 227,913 units sold. PlayStation 5 followed with 104,178 units.

We’ll also give a brief mention of publishers. Nintendo was again the top publisher, and the result wasn’t really close. The company sold 425,000 units at retail in August. Konami and Bandai Namco followed in second and third with 119,000 units and 80,000 units respectively.
