Japan’s best-selling games of June 2025 – huge debut for Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World

New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of June 2025.

June was Nintendo Switch 2 launch month, and Mario Kart World was a massive success. The game sold close to 1.2 million copies at retail. Tamagotchi Plaza also did pretty well, selling over 100,000 copies on both Nintendo Switch 1 and 2.

4. [PS5] Elden Ring: Nightreign – 66,590 / NEW
5. [NS2] Tamagotchi Plaza Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – 26,396 / NEW

Thanks to Mario Kart World, Nintendo was by far the most successful publisher in Japan for June. The company sold 1,441,000 pieces of software at retail. The next closest was Bandai Namco at 161,000 units, followed by Sony at 117,000 copies.

Hardware is where things get interesting. In its launch month, Nintendo Switch 2 sold over 1.4 million units. This is the best debut ever for a console in Japan. The Mario Kart World bundle was the more popular option, though no specific data was provided.

Even with the launch of Nintendo Switch 2, Switch 1 did fairly well. It sold another 78,097 units, down from 109,453 units in May.
