[Let’s Talk] Nintendo Music impressions

Posted on November 2, 2024 by (@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News, Switch

This was a bit of a strange week for Nintendo news. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition was announced out of nowhere, and then on Wednesday, the Nintendo Music app / service was announced.

If you’re a Nintendo Switch Online member, you can use Nintendo Music right now. An app has been released on mobile that lets you listen to tracks from a number of different games. Over time, more will be added. Nintendo also included some features to make the app a little more interesting. We covered it all here.

Highlights from last week’s topic: Sakurai’s next game: Smash Bros. or something else?

Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if his next game would be Super Smash Bros, especially since he’s the most well-known for it these days (and yes, I also know that he’s the one that brought the Kirby franchise to life, which I’m a huge fan of).

Anyways, I’d like to see Sakurai collaborate with HAL Laboratory for another Kirby game, platformer or not.

I’d be legitimately surprised if it was anything other than the next Smash for the Switch successor.

Hate to say it but I think anyone who believes it is something else are kinda coping. I’d personally like a Kid Icarus Uprising remake with decent controls as much as the next person but I don’t think anyone at Nintendo is clamoring for it.

Well, as I’ve agreed with a fellow Nintendo nerd from another country, Uprising is, next to Smash, the best example of Sakurai taking the reigns of established IPs and doing memorable things with them. We’ve concluded he should be given the direction of a whole new F-Zero. Super Smash Bros.’s “Falcon Punch” making it to the F-Zero anime (two things from decades ago, by the way) is not to be overlooked.

I love smash and I have an embarrassing amount of time in all of them except for 64 but I would greatly prefer an original project. There’s no way ultimate is the end of the series but it feels like an appropriate bookend for the series in its current state. Skip the switch 2, remaster ultimate with a bit of new content then come back in like 2028 with a new team and new ideas and let sakurai do whatever the hell he wants in the next few years
