Mario Kart World best combos karts characters

Today, we’re going over some of the best character and kart combos in Mario Kart World.

If you’ve played online in Mario Kart World so far, then you may have noticed certain characters and especially karts are more popular than others. Indeed, only a few weeks after the game’s launch, players have already determined the best character and kart combos to use. That being said, there isn’t one specific combo that’s best for every mode. Depending on the exact mode you’re playing, be it online or Time Trials or Grand Prix, the optimal character and kart changes. Of course, you don’t have to use an “optimal” build by any means – for the most part, you can get away with playing your favorite character as long as the stats you wind up with are fairly balanced.

In terms of stats, there are four visible ones: Speed, Acceleration, Weight, and Handling. Of these, Acceleration is generally the most important, especially if you’re playing against other racers. Speed is important too, but somewhat less so – you definitely want over one bar of Speed at the very least. Handling helps you more easily make tight turns without necessarily having to drift. Weight is probably the least important of the four because there aren’t as many parts of courses where you can be bumped off. So overall, then, you’re looking for a combo with great Acceleration and solid Speed and Handling stats. With that in mind, you’ll often see players run a light or feather weight character with the Baby Blooper kart. In high VR lobbies, you’ll notice almost everybody is currently using the Baby Blooper. Its stats are fairly balanced, and running a light or feather character generally helps increase your acceleration. The light characters include all the babies except Baby Peach and Baby Daisy (who are feather weights), Goomba, Dry Bones, Sidestepper, Spike, Fish Bone, and Peepa. Toad, Toadette, Koopa, Shy Guy, Lakitu, Nabbit, Cheep Cheep, and Stingby are all light as well, but they’re actually very slightly heavier with a little bit more Speed. A light character on the Baby Blooper also works great for Time Trials, especially on courses where you have to take all sorts of complicated wall riding and rail riding shortcuts.

For the best Mario Kart World character and kart combos, another good setup is Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Para-Biddybud, or Swoop on the W-Twin Chopper. These characters have the highest possible acceleration, which makes this build good online. Though their top Speed is low, it can easily be increased by collecting a few Coins. Acceleration is very important online because you’re inevitably going to be hit by many items in a row, and you need to be able to get back into the game as soon as possible. If you’re playing Grand Prix or Knockout Tour against CPUs, you can actually go light on drifting and tricks as per our guide to make CPUs less likely to use powerful items. With that in mind, you can use Bowser on the Reel Racer for the fastest possible setup. Bowser is in a class all his own, and he has nearly max Speed and Weight stats but very poor handling and acceleration. Since the acceleration is so low, we don’t really recommend using this online. Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Wiggler, Cow, Chargin’ Chuck, and Pianta are the next heaviest weight class, and their Speed is slightly lower but they do have slightly increased (but still not great) acceleration and handling stats.

What’s your go-to setup in Mario Kart World? Do you use an “optimal” build, or do you just play as your favorite character regardless of the stats and tech?
