If you played the Test Test for MLB The Show 22 on Switch not too long ago, you may have noticed that the game’s performance – specifically the frame rate, which you can see here – was a bit wonky. However, the team is promising an improved build for launch.

Ramone Russell, the product development communications and brand strategist for MLB The Show, spoke about this in a new episode of the Feature Premiere highlighting the Switch version. Ultimately the target is 30 FPS.

Russell said the following regarding the performance and frame rate for MLB The Show 22 on Switch:

“Speaking of the Tech Test, the build everybody played on the Tech Test is about two weeks old, and you notice it’s not exactly 100% optimized. However, by the time you watch this episode of the Feature Premiere, the Nintendo Switch version will have undergone a lot of optimization and updates. The footage you’re going to see here is much more solid and has a much more solid frame rate than what was available in the Tech Test. We are targeting gameplay at 30 frames per second.”

Later on in the video, various questions about the Switch version are answered. One of the things we hear is that the resolution is lowered in handheld mode “to improve performance and provide better battery.” Other than that, the experience is the same between docked and portable modes.

Additionally, we now know that MLB The Show 22 will be about 20GB on Switch, and those that pick up the game at retail will need to download most of the data. Motion controls aren’t supported, but players can use both Joy-Con in Home Run Derby.
