Nintendo Switch tariffs

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has addressed the current situation with U.S. tariffs and how that could impact Switch.

President Trump has been pursuing tariffs that would be enacted on countries such as China, Canada, and Mexico. That could affect various industries, including the video games business.

Regarding the potential impact of policies, Furukawa had this to say (as translated by Nintendo Everything):

“Nintendo Switch is not only manufactured in China, but in places such as Vietnam and Cambodia as well. We are predicting various geopolitical risks and establishing ways to respond.”

Furukawa also addressed the case of further fees imposed on China. Regarding that, he stated:

“While we anticipate a certain impact, the influence on this year’s financial results is expected to be minimal. We will continue to observe the trends, and thoroughly consider how to respond.”

Nintendo has Switch 2 launching this year and some have wondered if tariffs could affect the console’s price. As of now the company has not said anything about this.

Nintendo has also thus far has been keeping quiet on most details surrounding Switch 2, including a launch date and price. However, the company is expected to provide a big blowout during its upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2.
