Nintendo platforms accounted for over half of physical software spending in the US last year
According to data from Circana, physical spending on software for Nintendo platforms accounted for more than half of total physical software spending in the United States during 2023.
Obviously the main Nintendo platform here is Switch. Note that this doesn’t have anything to do with digital, including digital splits or shares.
Switch leads the way here, but PlayStation is apparently not far behind at about 40 percent. Xbox is at a severe disadvantage compared to both with less than 10 percent.
One reason why this piece of data was shared is because there’s been talk this week about Xbox phasing out physical copies of its games at retail. Nintendo, however, has shown no signs of that happening anytime soon. Digital sales may be on the rise, but physical is still very important for the company and success on Switch.
