DHS comments on why it’s using Pokemon and other big games to promote its activities

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a public statement as to why it’s been using popular gaming franchises such as Pokemon to promote its activities.

Last month, the DHS put up a video which included the theme song from the Pokemon anime as well as some interstitial cuts from the show and mock-ups of trading cards for some ICE arrests. That prompted a response, in which The Pokemon Company said it wasn’t involved at all.

Pokemon was what prompted discussions online, but the DHS has moved on (at least for now) to another big franchise. Halo was featured in a promotional social media post this week.

Journalist Alyssa Mercante reached out to the DHS and received the following response about the situation:

“We will reach people where they are with content they can relate to and understand, whether that be Halo, Pokemon, Lord of The Rings, or any other medium. DHS remains laser focused on bringing awareness to the flood of crime that criminal illegal aliens have inflicted on our country. We aren’t slowing down.”

For those interested in checking out the official response from The Pokemon Company, we posted that here.
