Pokemon GO celebrating its first anniversary with various in-game and real life events
It’s been almost a year now since Pokemon GO launched, and developer Niantic is celebrating that occasion (and the milestone of 750 million downloads) with a variety of events.
Starting on June 13th, the Solstice Event will go live. Fire and Ice-type Pokemon will be more frequently encountered, there will be XP bonuses for throwing Poke Balls accurately and Lucky Eggs will be discounted in the shop.
Soon after, Niantic promises that “collaborative group gameplay features” will be added to the game in a new update. It’s not quite clear what these new features are – though a potential clue might be that Niantic has announced that gyms will be temporarily disabled for a short while to prepare for this update, so these new co-op features could involve gyms in some way.
There will also be several real-life events to celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary. In the US, Pokemon GO Fest will be held in Chicago at Grant Park on July 22nd. Tickets will be available at this website on Monday, June 19th at 10 AM PDT.
In Europe, Pokemon GO events will be held from June to September at various Unibail-Rodamco shopping centres. As for Japan, a “Pikachu Outbreak” event will be held in Yokohama in August.
