As park of this week’s Game Freak hack / leak, fans have uncovered a bunch of cut content for Pokemon X and Y.
Developers always consider various ideas while making games. It turns out that Game Freak had various potential plans in mind, but ultimately scrapped a number of different things – including a fairly extensive racing minigame with Rhyhorn intended to invoke the feeling of Mario Kart.
Here’s the roundup of cut content found for Pokemon X and Y:
- “Soaring in the sky” was planned, but moved to Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire
- Personal Gym creation with Online Gym Challenge; defeating another person let you recruit them as Mob for your Gym
- Instant Hatching facility to hatch multiple Eggs in few clicks
- Rhyhorn race minigame was planned; Game Freak wanted to recreate the classic Mario Kart feeling using Pokemon moves; also thought for online communication
- Released Pokemon Evolution – once you freed a Pokemon in the wild there’s a chance it will come back Evolved
- Unevolved Pokemon Bonus – raising your Pokemon without evolving them would bring an extra STAB Bonus (1.5 > 2) & Stats Boost at +30Lv after EVO Cap
- Your friend (likely Kalem/Serena based on initial choice) was a Pokemon turned human and later revealed in the gameplay
- Mysterious space location where you can battle a reflection of yourself with your identical team
- Final Weapon was a Pokemon Virus
- Game Freak discussed implementing roughly 30 Mega Evolution in total, meaning Mega Jynx and Mega Flygon are possibly missing
- Game Freak discussed recycling Pokemon Battle Revolution animations
Aside from the tidbits above, we also have a round of beta Pokemon designs including scrapped ones entirely. These include a fire-eating bird that uses the fire stored in its body to heat up its skull and headbutt its opponent.
While there’s a good amount here that ultimately didn’t make it into Pokemon X / Y, you never know when these ideas could resurface. For example, as mentioned above, flying did end up in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
