Xenoblade Chronicles X wasn’t the only notable game Famitsu reviewed in its latest issue. Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition saw its first verdict, too. Editors handed out scores of 9, 9, 9, and 9 for a total of 36 out of 40.

Just like the Xenoblade Chronicles X review, we’ve now translated Famitsu’s Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition verdict. Head past the break for it in full.

It’s an exciting and fun “Puzzle & Dragons” world, which has great puzzles, of course, as well as a fantastic soundtrack and dynamic movement from each of the Mario characters. Even collecting 1-Up mushrooms is exciting! The enemy characters’ appearances are always fun and great to fight, and it’s even nice when they eventually join your party. I only played Puzzle Battle for a little bit, but early on, I could tell it was pretty easy, which is unfortunate for the whole package. I think it’s even good for smartphone “Puzzle and Dragon” players! It’s a very satisfying balance between two game worlds.

Reviewer 2 – 9

The world of Mario as played with the configuration of a system like Puzzle & Dragons ends up working out great for both game series. It’s nice to see familiar characters like Mario and hearing his responses is a lot of fun and brings up so many memories. The battle of Puzzle & Dragons is to attack by aligning the drops to match with an attribute of the team you assembled beforehand. Compared to the normal system of Puzzle & Dragons, the number of characters is less, but they have firm roles and skill, and there is also a great team organization.

Reviewer 3 – 9

The depth of the puzzles goes without saying. Many times, such as creating chain drops and based on that mechanic, there’s a gimmick within this version that rewards you with a “Mario”-style 1-Up when getting long chains. There are stages with the familiar Mario-style horizontal scroll, and this can be seen in stereoscopic vision from Mario’s point of view. You can also become friends with Mario’s enemies, which is something new for adults. The game definitely provides enough content and a good challenge in speedrun.

Reviewer 4 – 9

This is a good upstream from Puzzle & Dragons and Puzzle & Dragons Z, and it opens its hands enough for the new player, too. Graphics, of course, as well as combat, animation, and soundtrack are all heavily Mario-themed. This will be very enjoyable even for people who have never played Puzzle & Dragons before, as it serves as a polite introduction and will leave a good impression on the player. It’s surprising that it works! And I think I can speak for many of us when I say that all the areas I was concerned about are out the window.
