Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake February 2025 update announced, patch notes
Koei Tecmo announced a fairly substantial update for Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake this week. It’s unclear when exactly it’s going live, but the company is planning it for February.
A number of feature expansions and adjustments are planned. These are related to voices, settings, AI in combat, loading times, and more. Plus, there’s a bunch of fixes coming.

Feature expansions/adjustments
- Added officer-specific voices (like those for Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang, etc.) to the voice editing feature in Edit Original Officers and Edit Historical Officers.
- Added initial voice settings to Edit Original Officers.
- Added initial settings for the frequency of NPC executions after battles.
- Added initial settings for linked damage bonuses and the amount of damage dealt to buildings.
- Made adjustments so that governors (including NPCs) can appoint themselves to oversee and carry out domestic affairs.
- Made the following adjustments to AI combat:
- The defending side fights from the location where they used cover fire near watchtowers and cities.
- The reinforcements will move further forward than the regular army to fight.
- Characters will try to leave disadvantageous areas, like hexes that have gone up in flames.
- Shortened the loading time when transitioning between certain screens.
- Lowered the priority of the wives/daughters of NPC rulers being appointed by governors.
- Made changes to the Discuss command so that after the player has chosen not to become sworn siblings or propose marriage, the next set of options will be displayed more quickly.
- Made it easier for vagrant forces to raise banners.
Bug fixes
- Fixed a bug that compromised data when the Tale “Escaping Chang’an” was triggered.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes unintentionally reduced the departure city’s materials after coalition battles.
- Fixed a bug that gave officers the incorrect rank if they had been employed from a vagrant force.
- Fixed a bug in which the allied regular army would not use stratagems if the player participated in the battle as part of the reinforcements.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented the player officer from learning any skills in the Tale “Your Better Half.”
- Fixed a bug causing Chen Gong and Gao Shun to die in the Tale “Lu Bu’s Final Moments” even if they were not subordinates of Lu Bu.
- Fixed a bug in which domestic affairs goals were not linked to changes in the increase speed of domestic affairs.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused officers who were supposed to have already retreated to be captured when the commander retreated from battle last.
- Fixed a bug in which, after accepting a ruler’s request to find free officers, the request would sometimes not be cancelled even if the affiliated force was destroyed.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes decreased the loyalty of comrades after vagrant forces raised a banner.
- Fixed a bug preventing continuous selection when pressing “Up” or “Down” while holding the Cancel input on lists with multiple selectable options.
- Fixed a bug occurring when starting a new game from “Scenarios,” in which the mouse would move to a different officer than intended when transitioning from “List” to “Officer Details” during officer selection.
- Fixed a bug that switched the status and level of the tactics “Sorcery” and “Witchcraft” in some officer lists.
- Fixed a bug that replaced “Compatibility” with “Initial Diplomacy” on the save and load screens.
- Fixed a bug in which skipping a conversation event while the CG for Specialties was displayed would cause that CG to remain visible in the next event scene.
- Fixed a bug causing Cao Pi and Lady Zhen to become spouses despite being in opposing forces in the scenario “Battle of the Seven Forces.”
- Fixed a bug preventing players from inputting text in Steam’s Big Picture mode.
- Fixed a bug preventing cutscenes from playing for some players with triple monitor setups.
- Fixed other minor bugs.
