Sea of Stars reaches Kickstarter target and first stretch goal, now looking to fund animated 2D cutscenes
Yesterday, Sabotage Studio unveiled its new project Sea of Stars. It’s the company’s first RPG, which also features a prequel story set in The Messenger’s universe.
A Kickstarter campaign accompanied the announcement. Though full funding wasn’t necessary to ensure Sea of Stars’ development, the CA$100,000 target has already been reached. Next up: stretch goals.
The first goal, which involves a “Single Player+” mode and bonus dungeon, has already been met as well. At CA$350,000, the team will be able to include animated 2D cutscenes.
Here’s what Sabotage Studio said about those cinematics:
Cinematic Cutscenes!
Now that’s one thing we always dreamed of doing, but could never afford! As we want to tell a gripping story full of twist, there’s no better way to add to the impact of important moment than with Fully Animated 2D Cutscenes™.By inviting our friends over at DuCoup Animation to join the ranks of our production, we would get top quality cinematic cutscenes that show the world from camera angles we simply couldn’t do in the game engine, adding depth and personality, allowing us to tell the story of Sea of Stars in its full glory!
You need to see it now, don’t you? Well, there you go! While the character designs would be adjusted to fit the official sketches you saw on our promo art so far, this gives a pretty good taste of what DuCoup has in store for all of us!
