SEGA Genesis Classics to be delisted on the Nintendo Switch eShop
In a somewhat unexpected move, SEGA has decided to delist SEGA Genesis Classics on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
The collection will no longer be available for purchase starting on December 6 at 11:59 PM PT / December 7 at 2:59 AM ET. Anyone that buys it before that date will still be able to play and redownload it in the future. In other words, it will not be removed from your library.
SEGA didn’t indicate why it’s deciding to delist SEGA Genesis Classics. However, a notice on the official page mentions that “select individual classic titles will still be playable for those who have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.” This applies to the SEGA Genesis app offered at the service’s expansion tier.
SEGA Genesis Classics originally released for Nintendo Switch in December 2018. It includes more than 50 titles across all genres, ranging from Sonic and Streets of Rage 2 to deep RPGs like the Phantasy Star series. The collection also supports the ability to save at any time, rewind, and customize controls. Read more about it here.
