Spike Chunsoft on Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island origins
Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is coming to Switch next year, and you can say that the fans helped make it happen.
In an interview with Famitsu, Spike Chunsoft said that Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate received strong support from fans and sold well. This helped paved the way for the new project, which will be the first new mainline entry in over a decade.
Here’s what Spike Chunsoft had to say about the origins of Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island:
“Before the release of the Nintendo Switch version of Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate, I had drafted a new project, but was unable to continue with it at that time. However, after that game’s release we received a better response than we were expecting from fans, and sold more than we had anticipated, which allowed us to make something new. And that’s how it worked.
Even from within the team there had been a lingering desire to create a Shiren game, so after that, things were able to move very quickly.”
Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island launches for Switch in Japan on January 24, 2024. It’ll follow in the west on February 27.
