Sky: Children of the Light payment model on Switch will be a hybrid of premium and free-to-play
Sky: Children of the Light is only out on mobile at present, but that’ll be changing soon. Developer thatgamecompany announced earlier this month that a Switch version will be released in the near future.
Over on mobile, Sky: Children of the Light is free-to-play. It sounds like for the Switch version, the payment model won’t be transferred over 1:1. thatgamecompany co-founder Jenova Chen told GamesIndustry that the plan is to offer something that’s a hybrid of premium and free-to-play.
Chen also touched on something we heard about previously: cross-play. When Sky launches on Switch, it’ll be compatible with the model edition.
Chen said:
“We’re trying to create a family-friendly experience — different from children’s games, which are certainly family-friendly but have no emotional value for adults. I wanted to see a game where a whole family can play together. If we make this game available on multiple platforms and allow them to cross-play, you can literally go to any family. Dad and mum always have phones, the kids will either have an iPad or a Switch, and then they can all play together.”
