Steel Diver: Sub Wars online play ends early
3DS and Wii U online play will still be supported for a few more months, but not for Steel Diver: Sub Wars.
In a notice posted on its website, Nintendo explained that the game has already gone offline. That feature has actually been unavailable for a number of months now. Nintendo conducted emergency maintenance starting on September 4, 2023, but hasn’t able to get things back up and running. That means online play is finished for Steel Divers: Sub Wars and the game has been discontinued.
Steel Diver: Sub Wars launched in 2014 as a follow-up to the 3DS launch title. It was one of Nintendo’s earlier free-to-play experiments. Online multiplayer and a couple of single-player levels were included for free, but other content could be accessed with a purchase.
As for the reasoning behind the Steel Divers: Sub Wars online play shutdown, Nintendo didn’t really provide much of an explanation regarding what the original issue was. However, seeing as how the end is near for overall 3DS and Wii U online support – you can read about that here – making a huge push to bring back the functionality for just a few months may not have made sense.
