Switch update 16.0.1

Nintendo has just come out with the latest firmware update for Switch, with version 16.0.1 having been made available.

Like we’ve seen with the past few updates, this one is again about stability. Some of the more recent firmware upgrades have all been about that in one form or another.

Nintendo’s patch notes for the Switch version 16.0.1 update are as follows:

  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

The previous update for Switch, version 16.0.0, came out in February. But despite what amounts to a notable number change, no new functionality was introduced. Along with stability improvements, it was made so user nicknames that cannot be used are replaced with “???” which can be updated from the profile settings.

As for version 16.0.0, most Switch owners should find that it downloads automatically. You can also force the installation manually. To do so, head on over to the system settings, scroll down to the “System” tab and select the “System Update” option. The whole process is pretty straightforward and should only take a few moments.
