Earlier this month, Activision confirmed that a new Skylanders game will be released later in 2014. The “announcement” didn’t come with any concrete information though, aside from the fact that Toys for Bob is heading up development once again.
John Coyne, senior vice president of consumer marketing at Activision, recently told BT that “everyone’s going to have to wait a couple more months for more details.” He also teased, “I can tell you that it’s pretty exciting – it’s a game-changer”.

Toys for Bob working on this year’s Skylanders game

Unsurprisingly, Activision intends to publish a new Skylanders game this year. What’s interesting though is that Toys for Bob has returned as the project’s primary developer.
Toys for Bob worked on Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Giants, but wasn’t too involved with 2013’s Skylanders Swap Force. Vicarious Visions was put in charge of last year’s title, with Beenox handling the Wii version.

Unsurprisingly, Activision will be returning next year with new entries in its two most-popular franchises.
The next Call of Duty and Skylanders are both scheduled to launch in 2014. Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, confirmed the news during the company’s latest financial results earnings call yesterday.
He said:
“Despite short-term uncertainties, as we look forward to 2014, we have a very strong product pipeline. We expect multiple new releases across our major franchises, including the first Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls, along with the PS4 version of Diablo III and significant and exciting new content for World of Warcraft.
“We also expect to launch new Call of Duty and Skylanders titles and a major new potential franchise with Bungie’s Destiny.”

Activision intends to sell a lot of Skylanders products on Nintendo platforms
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
The Wii is on its way out, and the Wii U hasn’t performed up to Nintendo’s expectations. Given these two factors, MCV decided to ask Activision’s UK MD, Roy Stackhouse, about whether the publisher’s expectations for the game have been negatively impacted.
Not at all, Stackhouse said. In fact, he along with Activision as a whole “expect to sell a lot of Skylanders on the Nintendo platforms.” Stackhouse also said the company still considers Nintendo to be “a very integral part of our sales mix going forward.”
Stackhouse’s comments in full:
“Not at all. We still expect to sell a lot of Skylanders on the Nintendo platforms. Just because the sales may have softened doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of consoles out there that children are still playing on. We still see Nintendo as a very integral part of our sales mix going forward.”
