The Super Mario Bros. Movie recently came out in Japan, and it turns out it’s already setting records in the region.

The film grossed over 1.84 billion yen, or roughly $13.5 million, during its opening weekend. It beat out other releases to take the top movie spot.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie brought in another 339,586,180 yen on Monday. The total now sits at 2,182,490,230 yen, or roughly $16 million.

With the success thus far, The Super Mario Bros. Movie saw the best opening ever for an Illumination movie in Japan. It outperformed the weekend debuts of Despicable Me 3 ($5.4 million), which earned 751 million yen and The Secret Life of Pets, which generated 984 million yen ($7.1 million).

Additionally, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the best weekend debut for a Universal picture having beat out Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World brought in 1.51 billion yen ($11 million) in its opening weekend.

Lastly, the Mario film is the fastest-selling movie for Universal – it outperformed Jurassic World: Dominion and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The Nintendo flick additionally managed to hit two billion in yen faster than any other Universal release. It took Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom four days to reach that number.

As we reported over the weekend, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has generated over $1 billion worldwide.
