During a preview event for Valkyria Chronicles 4 in Japan this weekend, SEGA shared new details about the game. The team talked how long the game has been in development, the decision to give a heavy focus to snowy maps, and more. You can find a full roundup of information below.

– About 2 years for actual development
– Much more for planning and pre-production
– Addition of Grenadier class isn’t just guns on the battlefield, there are explosions too
– Snow theme featured because it fits the main theme of the game, which is “accomplishing the mission”
– Snowy maps account for about half of the game
– Additional classes added in the second and third games that aren’t present right now won’t be added
– No plans to add classes as DLC later
– Grenadier has weakness (ex: very weak at interception)
– No plans for any Valkyria Chronicles 3 characters to appear
– Tank only costs 1 now because people didn’t use the tanks that much in previous games
– No plans to sell the Japanese Collector’s Edition exclusive DLC later
– However, there is future DLC planned
– Though the map is very big this time, it isn’t a big disadvantage for classes like shocktroopers; you can ride the vehicles to move, or use the command system from Valkyria Chronicles 3
– Grenadier’s interception is terrible, but this improves later on
– If you give snipers anti-material rifle, they won’t intercept and destroy tanks; but there is special anti-material interception weapon
– Just like previous games, there are normal soldiers and some weird ones
– Not talking about the Switch version yet
