Visions of Mana producer comments on lack of a Switch version
When Square Enix announced Visions of Mana at the end of last year, some were surprised that a Switch version was nowhere to be seen. For one thing, the series itself started out on Nintendo platforms. We’ve also seen Collection of Mana as a Switch exclusive while Trials of Mana came out a few years ago as well.
In an interview with RPG Site, series producer Masaru Oyamada commented on the situation. Here’s what he had to say when asked why Switch isn’t a part of the plan this time around:
“That’s definitely a tricky question to give a direct answer to. For Trials of Mana, the main thing was how we had to consider the future of the series, and how to cultivate a playerbase for future entries in the franchise. When we thought about the next, say, 10 years of the series’ future we felt it was paramount to really solidify what we wanted ‘Mana’ to be going forward. Some of those core tenets included a focus on expansive environments, and a richer experience overall. As a direct result, that’s what informed the hardware we decided to develop for. That’s all we can say specifically, at this moment.”
While it looks like we won’t be getting Visions of Mana on Switch, perhaps it could end up on the Switch’s successor. Time will tell if that happens in the end.
