In this Pikmin 4 guide, we’ll show you where to find the White Onion, so that you will be able to add the elusive White Pikmin to your collection of allies in the game at any time.
What are White Pikmin?
White Pikmin first debuted in Pikmin 2, as one of two new types introduced in the game. They are the fastest type of Pikmin, and whilst they lack the power that other types have, enemies that ingest them will take damage, which can kill if they are low enough on health or ingest enough of them. White Pikmin are also immune to poisonous enemies and hazards, making them ideal for clearing these obstacles away.
Pikmin 4 White Onion location, where to find
White Pikmin are extremely rare, and whilst you may have encountered them in caves during the story and postgame exploration, you will not have encountered them as often as other types. To get the White Onion, which will allow you to make more of them, you will first need to complete both the main story and the postgame story “Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale”, which you can do by talking to Captain Olimar at your base.
Completing Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale will unlock the Trial of the Sage Leaf, which consists of ten Dandori trials. You will need to complete the fifth one, “5th Story: The White Key” to acquire the White Onion. The goal of this trial is to gather each treasure on the map to unlock the gate, and then carry the White Onion behind it back to your ship. You have seven minutes to do this, and only need to carry the Onion back your ship to complete the stage.
For tips on how to complete the trial, first spend some time learning the layout of the level, so that you can quickly move around to acquire each treasure in an order that will save you the most time. Use your Winged Pikmin to carry treasures first, as they will be able to fly over obstacles and reach your ship faster. Remember to call them back to you once they have finished their task so that you can send them out again afterwards.
There are a handful of Pikmin scattered across the map, both buried underground and engaged in combat with enemies, and recruiting them should be your top priority, so that you can more quickly gather each treasure, which require 7 Pikmin to carry. You can also send Oatchi to carry a treasure to your ship, although you will need him to take out the enemy guarding the gate. You will need to Rush the enemy from the side to flip it over so that your Pikmin can damage it. Use Winged Pikmin to carry the White Onion back to your ship to save time.
