Our Most Visually Appealing Wii Games

This category encompasses not only those Wii games with technically superb graphics, not only those with beautiful art, and not only those with a pleasing atmosphere, but all of the above. It is a category fitted with games that are simply nice to look at for any reason!

Valay says… Skyward Sword!

“I almost want to go with Okami since it’s near and dear to my heart. It looks absolutely stunning despite originating on the PlayStation 2. Ultimately, though, I’d probably choose Skyward Sword as the best-looking Wii title.

Zelda games always have lovely art styles; I feel that’s no different here. The developers were able to achieve a unique aesthetic and it’s most definitely among the prettiest titles on the console.”

Austin says… Fragile Dreams!

“There were games that had better technical graphics and there were games that had better artistic graphics, but there were no games on the Wii that simply looked as good as Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. The environments, the skylines, and the atmospherically intense underground structures provided the best feeling of post-apocalyptica that I’ve ever seen.”

Patrick says… Skyward Sword!

“Even though I didn’t always enjoy playing the game, Skyward Sword was always nice to look at. It’s the kind of game where you can just stand around for ages taking in the nice “watercolour” style that captures the look of a colourful Impressionist painting. It also does a great job of hiding the Wii’s limited draw distance by making distant objects blur into the background. But it’s not just the graphical style that’s fantastic — Skyward Sword also has some amazing environmental designs. Who could forget the calming interior of the Ancient Cistern or the mysterious Sand Sea? I can definitely see why some people preferred the visual style of Wind Waker or Twilight Princess, especially when taking Skyward Sword’s goofy character designs into account, but I personally think it’s the most visually appealing game in the whole series.”

Laura says… Skyward Sword!

“I am retracting my previous statements on past podcasts; I love the visuals on Skyward Sword. It has some of the most stunning artwork of any Zelda game. Nothing will ever beat Twilight Princess for me, but this comes pretty close. The watercolor style makes it feel like a warm and playful environment; while at the same time it can create a dark and moody setting. It feels like you are playing within a painting and you jump from one piece of artwork to the next. It was really breathtaking.”

Jack says… Muramasa: The Demon Blade!

“Despite Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2’s vast horizons and Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon’s chaste natural beauty, upon consultation of the six Joker cards, my vote for most visually appealing Wii game goes to Vanillaware’s hand-drawn sidescroller Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Playing through, I found each biome absolutely stunning, whether it be the golden plains of Kyoto, or the bright nighttime city lights of Edo.”
