[Wii Send-Off] NintendoEverything Staff Opinions!
Our Favorite Wii Peripherals (Released or Unreleased)
Something that the Wii will likely go down in history for is the almost-ridiculous amount of peripherals released for it. Even more absurd, however, were the ones that we merely saw glimpses of through short presentations, patents, or rumors. If you want a trip down memory lane through forests of things you had forgotten about long ago, then this is the list for you. I present to you the NintendoEverything staff’s list of our favorite Wii peripherals:
Valay says… Wii Motion+
“Wii MotionPlus. I know I’m going with a safe choice here, but it’s more than just a piece of plastic and has some worthwhile tech behind it. Without MotionPlus, we wouldn’t have gotten games such as Skyward Sword and Wii Sports Resort (at least in their current states).
It’s just a shame it didn’t come out sooner. If it did, perhaps more titles could have taken advantage of the accessory.”
Austin says… Wii Motion+
“I’m not going to say too much about it since others are going very in depth, but I would also have to agree that Motion+ was the best accessory for the system!”
Patrick says… Classic Controller Pro!
“Never mind the motion controls – the Classic Controller Pro is almost always my preferred Wii controller. Though it does feel a little too light, it’s incredibly comfortable and the button layout is perfect for playing Super Nintendo games. I can’t imagine sinking 50+ hours into Monster Hunter Tri without it.”
Laura says… Wii Balance Board!
“Out of all of the add technology for the Wii, my absolute favorite has to be the Wii Fit board. Exercising has never been a passion of mine, and stepping on a scale was a dreaded activity for me. The balance board helped disguise the dread of all of those things, making it charming and fun. It was super easy to use and, unlike Wiimotes, it rarely failed to sync. For all of the times I looked like an idiot pretending to Hoola-hoop on it, I never regretted buying it and loved using it.”
Jack says… Wii Motion+
“Not a whole lot of truly splendid peripherals were released within the Wii’s lifespan (the same could be said for nearly every other console every released, however— the Gamecube’s bongo drums for example, or the Super Nintendo’s Super Scope for Clown Children), but the one I’ll select, which seems to be the consensus favorite, is one that falls in line with the aspirations of what the Wii intended to be at launch: Wii Motion Plus. Offering one-to-one motion made games like Skyward Sword a truly memorable experience, and didn’t feel gimmicky (and therefore take you out of the game) in the slightest. While Nintendo’s hackneyed motion-gaming ‘vision’ might have been an obvious cover-up for a console with ridiculously limited internal tech, the Wii Motion Plus addendum brought their hopeful, brand-saving fantasy to life.”
