Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi has died
Japan public broadcaster NHK is reporting that Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, has passed away. He was 60 years old.
NHK says that on June 6, Takahashi was discovered floating in shallow waters off the coast of Nago City, Okinawa Island by the Japan Coast Guard. It’s unclear what happened at present, but he was wearing snorkeling equipment when found.
It goes without saying that Takahashi has been a huge influence in the anime and manga scene. However, his reach obviously extended to gaming as well. Yu-Gi-Oh! games have been released on Nintendo systems going all the way back to the original Game Boy.
A number of Yu-Gi-Oh! titles are also available on Switch right now. These include Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel: Dawn of the Battle Royale, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel.
Today’s news was certainly unexpected and will come as a shock to many. Takahashi’s work will always be remembered, however. Our thoughts go out to Takahashi’s family and friends as well as others that have been affecting by his passing.
