How to get all the automatons in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s main mechanic is undeniably the ability to summon echoes, but it contains another more hidden mechanic that comes in useful, too: Automatons. Much like normal echoes, you can summon automatons with your Tri Rod. Unlike echoes, you must wind them up by holding the button near the automaton for a few seconds first. There are only a handful of them compared to the over 100 echoes (we have the full list here), but they each have their own special uses. After clearing up a rift in Hyrule Castle Town, you can find Dampe (the inventor who makes these Automatons) arguing with a crow north of Hyrule Ranch.
Echoes of Wisdom automatons list
Once you’ve met Dampe, you’ll need to defeat the Crow he’s arguing with to recover his lost key. From there, he’ll head back to his house in northeastern Hyrule. This will be marked on your map with a blue dot (make sure the side quest is active), but if you’re looking for a more specific location, it’s almost directly northeast of Hyrule Castle Town, huddled in a low valley surrounded by higher cliffs. Once you arrive at Dampe’s house, you can start helping him invent Automatons. There are six of them in the game, but if you’re visiting Dampe right after clearing the Hyrule Castle Town rift, you probably won’t have the correct Echoes to get them all in one go.
Basically, there are six mini-side quests in Dampe’s house. By extension, Echoes of Wisdom has six total automatons. You’ll have to check Dampe’s journal, and he will describe two echoes that he wants you to zap onto the pedestal in front of him for inspiration. Your objective is either to do just that, or to go find the Echo he’s describing, learn it, and then come back. Here’s a full list of Echoes you’ll need to have to complete each of the side quests.
- Automaton Engineer Dampe: This is the very first quest you can take on here, and it requires a Tektike Echo and a Mothula Echo. You almost certainly have both of these right now, but if you missed one, you can find Tektikes just about anywhere there’s water in Hyrule Field, and you can find Mothulas in the Gerudo Sanctum rift. This creates the Techtite Automaton, which jumps around and fights enemies on your behalf.
- Explosions Galore: This is generally the second side quest available here. You need both an Octorok Echo and a Fireworks echo. But you can’t get the latter until you’ve cleared the main objective at Eldin Volcano in the northwest – specifically, there is a quest called The Fireworks Artist that unlocks the ability to learn a Fireworks Echo. This creates a Tocktorok, which launches fireworks to deal damage.
- Performance Artist: From here on out, certain automatons will require key items that you obtain from unrelated mini-games. In this case, you will need the Prismatic Music Box you get from the Flag Race challenge in Hyrule Ranch. You will also need a Zol echo, which you should ideally have obtained long ago at this point. This results in the Gizmol Echo.
- Endless Stomach: This automaton requires a Bio Deku Baba and a Steel Trap, the latter of which is obtained as a reward for one of the Acorn-Gathering mini-games. Once you’ve shown them both to Dampe, he will give you the High-Teku Baba, one of the more useful Automatons that can eat enemies in one gulp.
- Get Rich Quick: The sixth Echoes of Wisdom automaton circles back around to the Crow that started this quest line. This side quest requires a Crow Echo and a Golden Fan. You can obtain a Golden Fan as a reward from the Mango Rush mini-game at the oasis in the Gerudo region. This results in the Goldfinch, a Crow automaton that can get you lots of Rupees from enemies.
If at any point one of your automatons takes too much damage, it will break and you’ll have to return to Dampe’s house to get it fixed. He accepts either Rupees or Monster Stones as payment, so you can choose to pay whichever you have more of at the time. If you need some extra money, we do have an infinite Rupee farming guide that may come in handy for you here.
