Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom tech analysis, including frame rate and resolution

Zelda Echoes Wisdom frame rate resolution

Now that Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is out on Switch, we’re able to see how the game holds up from a technical perspective – specifically frame rate and resolution. Digital Foundry delved into these topics in a new video today.

Unfortunately, similar to Grezzo’s remake of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, the main issue plaguing the game currently is the frame rate. Those hoping for a smooth 60 FPS experience might be a little disappointed.

Here’s the full roundup of tidbits:

– Uses same tech and techniques as the Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake
– Frame rate issues with Link’s Awakening are also in this game
– Bounces between 60 and 30 FPS as you play
– This is likely due to a reliance on a double buffer vertical sync
– World is larger and more seamless, so Switch struggles
– Could be a memory bandwidth or CPU issue
– Frame rate issues triggered by moving through the world
– Overworld areas and certain large boss encounters often 30 FPS with pockets going up to 60 FPS
– Dungeons are usually 60 FPS
– Image quality similar to Link’s Awakening
– Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom resolution typically ranges from 972p to 1080p when indoors (docked)
– Resolution outdoors can drop to 720p
