Hideki Kamiya wants to make a true Okami sequel, Viewtiful Joe remake, and more

Posted on November 20, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News

In the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation, PlatinumGames game designer and director Hideki Kamiya spoke about the sorts of projects he’d be interested in working on in the future. Kamiya cited a “true Okami sequel” and a Viewtiful Joe remake as just a couple of things he’d love to pursue.

Kamiya said:

“I want to work on a Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe remake, or a true sequel for Okami. A cooperation with Dante (from Devil May Cry) and Bayonetta might also be fun. Dear Capcom, if it’s okay with someone like me, I will help anytime. Best regards. Everyone, bow down your heads together with me!”

Capcom needs to find a way to get Kamiya and PlatinumGames involved with a new Okami game. Okamiden was nice for what it was, but a true sequel as Kamiya suggested would be a dream come true. And while we’re at it, we seriously need Okami HD on Switch, Capcom…

Holy crap, yes. Of course, it’ll probably never happen – Capcom isn’t famous for making excellent decisions, and allowing a passionate outsider make a game using one of their IPs just doesn’t seem like something they would do. Or putting it on the Switch, even though it would probably be the one that controls the best.

Oh, well. A man can dream…

  • A new Viewtiful Joe?

    An Okami sequel?

Dante and Bayonetta crossover? A man can dream….

    • “Bayonetta 3 & Knuckles Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry Series”

  • Thomas_NE

Yes to all of those ideas, please. Clover Forever.

  • Princess_Eevee9

The dude should instead go to Nintendo instead of waiting for Capcom’s stupid selves. All I want is that Sexy Silvia gets Playable status the whole game!

  • Suraimu

Just make spiritual sequels with new characters and a new name nobody can copyright gameplay.

    • FrostedFireFly

It doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes a developer doesn’t want to just simply make a spiritual successor because they like how the game played, but because they fell in love with the characters and the world they lived in.

Sounds a tad bit dramatic, but imagine saying to a father who misses his child to just make a new one. Sometimes you can’t just replace something you love and I think for that reason, Capcom needs to let him really go at it with Okami again.

Just wait for cloning. No longer a problem.

“Sounds a tad bit dramatic, but imagine saying to a father who misses his child to just make a new one.”
Tell that to Dr. Tenma. =P

        • FrostedFireFly

          Y’got me there! lol

        • Literally thought that too, lol. But we see how that ended. ;n; :/
(Well, at first. Maybe this is for the best. . .!?)

          • Reggie

Honestly I’m surprised people even got my reference.

          • I am too, sadly. And disappointed that more people didn’t say anything or get it.

  • Ardisan

Capcom doesnt like love and passion, sorry pal…

  • Don Zaloog

And I’d like a night with Emily Ratajkowski, Nina Dobrev, Eva Green and Colleen Ballinger (together or separately). It’s never gonna happen, much like this.

  • fbnaulin

    Please, Capcom, hear this man.

  • Reggie

“Dear Capcom, if it’s okay with someone like me”

    Capcom: No.

  • Dylan W

Um, how about YES?! Bringing over Okami HD to the Switch as well as an HD version of Okamiden would be much appreciated. I still haven’t finished Okami on the Wii but a Switch version may push me to finish it.

  • Awesome!

  • Game_God

Nintendo, you have to pay wings to this man so he can fly, spend some money into Capcom so these projects can happen!

  • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

We want it too Kamiya, bring it to us

  • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

Capcom needs to stop with their bullcrap and bring us the games we want… we want viewtiful joge, okami, bayonetta vs dmc, we want MH World on switch, we want a true new megaman

    • Aline Piroutek

Capcom: “How about a second Street Fighter II game for Switch? People bought the first.”

      • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

        yeah, exactly…. sigh..

  • TruExtent

(Also if you somehow have the time, find a way to get Scalebound up and running again, get Wonderful 202 going and this may be a long shot but can we get that Platinum made Kill la Kill game mentioned years ago? One final thing, if the relationship with Sega is still good I’m curious as to what a Platinum Sonic game would be like.)

  • Mccuish1525

I’d love to see an Okami sequel.

  • Aline Piroutek

He truly likes the games we worked on.

  • Max

Come on, Capcom. Do it for sunglasses baldy. And Mega Man Legends 3 while you’re at it :3

  • Man

Capcom, just sell your IPs to companies that ACTUALLY CARE!

  • Sinara Centeno

Yes, we live in a era where Capcom have to hire third of third party to make a descent game…

    • Another EA hire other studios to make their IP’s is so bad? just sayin

  • R.Z.

Hideki Kamiya wishes Capom would stop being C(r)apcom, basically.
I think it’s safe to say all gamers agree.
It’s also probably not gonna happen anytime soon.

  • DarkFist_Flames

“Dear Capcom, if it’s okay with someone like me” LOL poor kamiya after many of his games didnt have good sales, now he’s being polite for the company that he used to hate xD

  • Radish

Isn’t Platinum Games made up of developers who used to work for Capcom and then left to form this studio? I know Kamiya himself was a Capcom employee.

Kind of ironic to see him begging Capcom to let him back in now.

  • I see he’s changed some of his stances a bit. It would definitely be nice though. Clearly Capcom is trying to cling on to a couple of these, and they know the fanbases are still there. I don’t know entirely what’s going on at Capcom, but maybe they’ll have enough sense to make this happen.

  • ZarexWolf

I would like to see an Okamiden sequel, but I would also like to see why they won’t put Jon Talbain into any more games.
