Intelligent Systems says experience from Fire Emblem Heroes will help with work on future games

Posted on September 24, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News

Intelligent Systems has been making Fire Emblem games for many, many years. However, with Fire Emblem Heroes, the studio had to rethink its approach somewhat. Intelligent Systems and Nintendo weren’t just going to take the gameplay as is and plop it on to mobile devices as is.

That unique experience of working on Fire Emblem Heroes will help Intelligent Systems moving forward. That’s according to Kouhei Maeda, one of the game’s directors.

Maeda recently told IGN:

“What we’ve learned from working on Fire Emblem Heroes will really help us as we work on future games. As we’re working on future games, we’re thinking about what is it that fans want and what is it fans like, and we’re able to look at the data we get from Fire Emblem Heroes [and apply that].”

Thanks to Johnathan for the tip.

I know, how about treating classic games well? You make ridiculous money every time you release a PoR banner.

  • I’m still waiting for the husband costumes.

  • Before this devolves into crapping on them for Warriors: don’t forget that it’s also a KT project and that KT has plenty of sway with it as well. And FE:W so far is mirroring Musou patterns well.

As for people feel neglected otherwise; what has changed? When did they ever do much to go back to their roots or do anything with the older games as they progressed? We got Shadow Dragon, but that’s just re-introducing the very first game and simulatenously banking off Marth’s popularity. (And now we have SoV, but that was a personal thing.)

I think it would be great if the older games as remakes, or at least in collections or something, but it’s not like anything has changed in how they handle the series ultimately. I think Nintendo wanting to reintroduce older stuff like gen and plenty of smaller companies also revitalizing classic or older, niche series is a good sign though, and may encourage Nintendo (and thus IS) to do something with the older FE games.

I mean looking in heroes Hector, Reinhard, Brave Lyn, Ninian, Genny and many others are the most popular are they arent from new games, also people like the costumes because they are weird, funny and with a lot of fanservice.

      • NeptuniasBeard

Most of those characters are popular for meta reasons (distant counter, dancer, etc) I wouldn’t take that to mean anything

        • Exposer

FE characters are popular because its power or its personality…So, there is no problem with that.

      • Most of the FE activity I see comes from twitter first, tumblr second – but kinda tied with gaming news sites. From what I’ve seen, none of them are the most popular. I do see a healthy mix of newer and older characters as most popular, but that’s also just from what I see, who I follow and who they follow, etc. That doesn’t speak to the concentrated FE fandom. (And that applies to the JP and Western side for who I follow.)

I like the costumes and stuff like that when they add it. And from what I’ve seen, most others do too. But there’s this group of people (mostly on gaming sites, I don’t see them as much on social media), who get really persnickety over that stuff.

I still remember people treating the bridal outfits purely as “waifu” stuff, as if women aren’t into the concepts of June Brides and marriage and how that’s equal fanservice (if not aimed more at the female side even).

        • Bart

Upvoted for use of the word “persnickety”. xD

          • Haha, thanks. I like the word, but don’t get to use it much. >u<

I enter that banner, i ended with Cordelia who was my favoeite arches despite her bad IV’s until Brave Lyn came out.

The only games I want to see re-made, personally, are the Japanese ones we’ve never gotten overseas. I feel like if they remade Blazing Blade or Sacred Stones, people would just complain to hell and back. Especially for Blazing Blade as I can imagine one single change would throw people into hysteria.

That aside, I’d personally LOVE to see Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia collection remakes. OR if they don’t do Thracia at least Genealogy. That game could due for a remake and it’s one of the best retro FE games!

      • I would love to have those as well~. And yeah, that’s the irony. IS would never be able to remake the game properly, especially for original fans of those games.

That would be pretty cool! I think if they could bring Hidari back for a remake of those too, that would be great. They could update the art designs so well~.

  • Amethyst Gaze

Ah yes invaluable data for the next title. Look see, girls with swords seem to be popular, or maybe the older sister type is what players are looking for.

    • I favor both, but I am a sucker for the latter. (Older sister and older brother types would hit me straight through the heart though~.)

  • GoldenTriforce

Please do anything but take experience from Heroes. I don’t want stupid costumes ruining characters and soulless gatcha ruining mainline FE

    • Aline Piroutek

Still the best Nintendo mobile game till now.
      See “Brave Heroes” trailer.

      • GoldenTriforce

Mario Run treats both itself and the player with far more respect than FEH

    • ronin4life

Why should anyone expect that outside of their mobile game though? Not gonna happen.

      • GoldenTriforce

It has already started though, with the Lucina DLC costume for warriors

        • Aline Piroutek

Bride Lucina doens’t exists in Fire Emblem Heroes, comes from Fire Emblem Awakening.

          • GoldenTriforce

Bride Lucinia is in Awakening. If so I missed that.

I didn’t mean directly from Heroes, I mean the idea of taking serious characters in a serious game and putting them in stupid costumes for the lols.

  • Hidden Flare

This sounds good. I think heroes has overall done good, a few minor things but mostly good things.

I suppose I’ll say this, these words mean nothing till we see their action. They don’t exactly say what from heroes did exactly, just that it did. We can only wait to see what they mean.

  • ««H3©TöR»»

Yeah, they know JUST how to please fans! Camilla’s Jigglypuffs. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • Add micro-transactions to a main line game is what i’m assuming they got out of heroes.

    • Vigilante_blade

Like in Awakening, Fates and Valentia’s crazy season pass DLC.

    • ronin4life

I personally think they are considering Character-type popularity and stat balance personally.

What kinds of characters FE fans have been shown to like has been a major talking point surrounding the game, and their has been increased talk about balance dynamics due to the evolving nature of F2P games. These aren’t things intelligent has had easy data for in the past that literally floods directly through their servers

  • NeptuniasBeard

Yes IS people love costumes. I coulda told you that. Let the next FE have everyone fighting in swimsuits

  • Simtopia23

I hope they learned that waifus with sexy costumes brings more money, and not that microtransactions is a thing and they could replicate it on the mainline Fire Emblem game.

  • Hidden Flare

Uhh I know i already left a comment… But I must ask why everyone here is saying ‘costumes’?… First just because warriors is doing that means nothing cause they already did costumes in eariler Warriors games. Second there is more then just costumes they did in this game. Third and most important they already did the costume thing. I swear we didn’t have ‘bride’ units before. Why would IS say they used something heroes didn’t when they already have. That’s like saying Nintendo saying they will have a game where you can dress your miis or have coin chanlleges with mario, it’s already been done.
