Exclusive to the Switch by looks of it. Though there wasn’t much to see, wtf?

    • ben

The devil is in the detail.

  • KnightWonder

Not surprising it’s Switch only. It’s been that way for a while.

  • João Ribeiro

    Nintendo wins. Fatality.

    • Apfel

      Babality (please, include also fanboys)

  • wytxus

one scene in the trailer looks like persona

    • OlimacFTW

Yup, the first scene, after that it goes hardcore.

  • theFooFighter

    One more god rejected

  • Blueberry

    It looks so good!

  • ecoutercavalier

Can this day get any better?

    *Animal Crossing Direct later tonight*

    • ≈ KobobKC ≈ ᔦꙬᔨ

That’s in 1-2 days, not tonight.

      • ecoutercavalier

Oh right on. I’m just excited/sleep deprived!

    • bdp

      that’s for the mobile game

    • Right~? This is such a blessed day. (Even if the Direct isn’t tonight, it’s coming!”)

  • Don Zaloog

The hits just keep on coming to the Switch.

  • GoldenTriforce

    Yay, one more exclusive!

Also… couldn’t this have just been shared outright back in January?

    • GoldenTriforce

Now I guess I should go and actually put some more time into apocalypse

  • Bart

Well if I wasn’t hyped before (and I was) I sure am now…

  • That character models reminds me of Digital Devil Saga, so that means this game’s character design is probably being made by the god Kaneko!

    • Velen (Not WoW)

Last I heard, Kaneko hasn’t been working on SMT for some time. Since Strange Journey in fact on the DS.

So chances are Doi is going to be the one behind this.

      • Which sucks, because I really miss Kaneko’s art. I’m also just not a fan of Doi for SMT.

        • hi v3.0

The 3D models of the boy(or girl idk)’s hands looks like something from Kaneko tbh

          • Yeah, that’s true. And their outfits actually feel kind of Kaneko.

    • Auragar

      Nope afraid not.

  • Princess_Eevee9

Already knew this but yes hype!

  • Simtopia23

  • TDude73

Shin Megami Tensei V looks 100% lit. An Unreal Engine 4 powered JRPG exclusively for the Nintendo Switch!

  • DrWilly

I’m glad it’s not on PS4. The Switch needs some third-party exclusives.

  • Exy

No Tokyo Mirage Sessions bait-and-switch like last time. Oh well.

  • nekoknight

So the next main installment of a Shin Megami Tensei game is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch…
    And so it begins…

    • OlimacFTW

It has been like that since 2013, it’s only a matter to ignore the port begging.

    • Aiddon

The only time a mainline SMT title hasn’t been on a Nintendo system is Nocturne. Try telling Sony zealots that

    • ben

I don’t know why anyone is shocked. It has always been a Nintendo franchise. Sony got the persona spinoff.

    • hi v3.0

SMT has been Nintendo exclusive since DS

  • Sony fans already on a meltdown.
They were so sure that it was coming to PS4 because the site labelled it as HD Project, uses Unreal Engine 4 and Persona 5 success and thought Atlus will do a multiplatform JRPG. LOL

    • Gamingfan

Im a sony fan and dont care lol.

      • Well if you’re on this site you probably don’t.
Maybe I’ve should’ve said Sony fanboys instead of fans.

    • Fandangle

To be fair, this doesn’t rule out a multiplat releaase. It depends on how much interest they gauge in the Switch and unless Nintendo poured out a fluffton of money to keep it exclusive like Sony did to MH world then it’s a very real possibility.

SMT has been flip flopping systems since its inception, though I don’t think they’ve ever done a multiplat release, it doesn’t rule out the possibility.

      • No.
Persona main games will stay PlayStation
Shin Megami Tensei will stay Nintendo
it been that way for over 10 years. Not changing. Nintendo had a cross-over with Fire Emblem, did a promotion for those who got both Fire Emblem Awakening and SMTIV.

        • Fandangle

          Just like Persona Q wasn’t on 3DS.
Just like SMT3 wasn’t on PS2 or the original SMT is on everything.
Video game corporations are a large group of people and they’re not a force of nature that can easily be predicted. Trying to assign a pattern to them like this is really idiotic. You’re being incredibly fanboyish right now in your assertions, just as bad as the sony fanboys moaning about it remaining exclusive.

Especially now that Sega owns them and they have more development resources at their disposal it becomes more and more likely as the games get bigger that they’ll need to be on more platforms to turn a profit. Multiplat isn’t ruled out yet. The world is much more fickle than you’re making it out to be.

          • Can you read. I said MAIN GAMES. Persona Q is not a main game.
Plus I said Last 10 years.
2003 was not 10 years ago.

          • Fandangle

Persona in general is a spinoff of SMT which itself is a spinoff of Megami Tensai which itself is a video game adaption of a popular Japanese book series.

2003 was not 10 years ago.

This doesn’t contradict anything I’ve said. The only thing you’ve done is pointed out a perceived pattern and this discussion continues purely because you feel like spiting people who want to play a video game. Why are you so spiteful? I agree that it is ridiculous to be upset over this not being a multiplat purely for console wars purposes, but you’re just the other side of the horse shoe here.

      • Atlus doesn’t do multiplay JRPG so that aint happening.

        • Fandangle

Did you even read my post?

          • Velen (Not WoW)

            I would say not.

  • Lol, there’s about to be a mess of salty people. I’m sure now that it’s Switch exclusive confirmed (because it wasn’t obvious enough before), we’ll see a lot of;

    – “IV sucked anyway! SMT isn’t what it used to be!”

    – “Probably will be crap.”

    – Blah blah blah, something about bad graphics (because SMT was always about graphics, right?), and then something about the tone and writing (which may be fair).

I adored the music though. I’m interested and curious. The garage scene really piqued my interest.

    • ben

Fortunately. Neogaf is dead so all that pollution has no where to surface!

      • It’ll just disperse to everywhere else, sadly, lol.

        • ben

Maybe, but it will be less influential now.

    • NeptuniasBeard

I definitely have seen the first quote floating around.

All I know is that I’m pumped. If Nintendo gets Persona as well, I’m throwing the PS4 in the trash! (Not really, it’s my roommate’s)

      • Yeah, I have too, lol. Some people were at least consistent about using it even before SMTV’s presentation trailer. But some people got super obvious and only jumped on that after exclusivity was confirmed. Cracks me up.

  • Epic trailer and I’m loving the art style and the music. So happy this is a Switch exclusive, especially since the Persona series appears to be locked up by Sony

    • TDude73

      …and nothing but the truth!

  • Amethyst Gaze

Oh Switch. You make my wallet cry. This looks amazing.

  • Aiddon

Stuff I said over at Gematsu:

-Shekhinah is a Hebrew term meaning “dwelling”, typically meaning the dwelling of the Divine presence of God. Interestingly, the word is feminine, thus referring to the feminine aspects of God, which is fitting considering how “megami” is Japanese for “goddess.”

-Da’at is a Hebrew term meaning “knowledge”, it typically refers to the Sephirot in the Kabbalah and is the culmination of the Sephirot where all aspects meet as one.

Looks like they’re going for a Kabbalah route this time around, which isn’t surprising considering how Persona 5 had elements from the Kabbalah.

    • Bart

      Interesting, thanks for that.

  • dathip

Saw Dakini, Oni, and Forneus in the trailer. Anyone who has never played any persona or shin megami tensei, game but played persona 5, should NOW be familiar when these demons. 😀

  • ben

    I am ready.

  • Addy

I saw this being called that title from a mile away.

  • hi v3.0

  • Auragar

God this game looks freaking gorgeous. And now we can call it V. Also I guess it actually is Switch exclusive, works for me I guess. *Shrug* I’m still not sure if I’m going to get it but we will see.
