New Wii U update out now (version 5.5.2)

Posted on July 17, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U

Nintendo’s older console just received a new update. All system owners can download version 5.5.2.

The update notes haven’t been exciting for Wii U in awhile, and nothing really changed this time either. Nintendo simply states, “Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience”. The update may address certain exploits within the hardware.

Note that you’ll need today’s update in order to access the eShop.

My WiiU’s back in its box so won’t be updating it.

  • I don’t know if it can get any more stable
Clearly the most stable nintendo console

    • Indielink

      That would be the 3DS.

      • no way, the 3d messes up if i move my head an inch
        not stable at all

        • Jimmy Gary

uh thats the 3d effect doing that without it on the 3ds is stable af

        • Chuko Mukoro-Okpodu

          Okay. How about 2DS.

        • Indielink

That’s your head that’s unstable then.

          • how dare you move your head
is like the ultimate fanboy comment

          • Indielink

            Someone can’t take a joke.

          • whoosh

          • Niall

the 3D is achieved by having two separate images show dependant on where your eyes are positioned, your brain tries to make sense of it so it appears as if it’s 3D. Would you rather them have strange colours on the screen and make you buy 3D glasses?

          • i’d rather play the wiiu, the most stable console of all time

          • Oh man, you seem annoying

          • likewise

  • Aline Piroutek

My USB ready pirates games are over.
Splatoon legit online play is over.

Looking back, the Wii U seems like more of a disappointment than it felt like while it was still the flagship Nintendo console. That might have something to do with me being in denial as a Nintendo fan, or that I still had hope for a great game back then. Even Mario 3D World was disappointing by Mario standards. It’s a fine game, but I feel like that’s all that most of the Wii U’s best games are: fine, not amazing, not great.

    • Adrian Brown

SM3D World was fine. DK Tropical Freeze was fine. Smash 4 was great, MK8 was great, Bayonetta 2 was great, Breath of the Wild (a Wii U game) was awesome.

      • no, DK Tropical Freeze is amazing!

      • Ardisan

SM3D World was a amazing game.

      • ≈ KobobKC ≈

        Splatoon, etc.

  • fox_whisper85

Newsflash: This is to only fix the webkit exploit

    Nothing else.

    Congratu-f***ing-lations, Nintendo.

    • wisdomsprince

If you never did homebrew but did this update would you still be able to do homebrew?

      • fox_whisper85

No, you’re pretty much shiz outta luck until another webkit exploit is found.

When people say don’t update, they know what they’re talking about.

    • jimmydabosh

Yeah this update apparently removes the internet browser used for Loadiine and Mocha/USB etc and replaces it with a browser that blocks 99% of homebrew. The only way to avoid it is if you have updates blocked via DNS and router (which luckily I did just a couple weeks ago).

      • fox_whisper85

If you have Haxchi and/or CBHC, you’re safe and still have permanent homebrew. Also using a special program that I won’t mention, you can obtain a ticket and install it to the system NAND and trick your Wii U into being system version 5.5.2 DNS blocking or server blocking, you can still access online features. Google is your friend, if people want to make their system hacked into 5.5.2, they can do so safely. Nintendo didn’t win at all lol.

  • Stuart

What? Wasn’t expecting a Wii U update at this point…

  • fox_whisper85

Lol too bad I already have the homebrew channel permanently installed. Doesn’t patch the really important parts.

    • wisdomsprince

      Does this update kill homebrew?

      • fox_whisper85

        Yes and no.

        If you have Haxchi/CBHC, you’re 100% safe.
If you rely on webkit exploits, you’re boned.

Block with DNS/server blacklist ASAP if you care about hacks.

        • wisdomsprince

If you never did homebrew but did this update would you still be able to do homebrew?2

  • David Hepoz

I love the guy who wrote this note when says “Nintendo’s older console” f**k u.
    Wii U Isn’t that bad.

    • Chuko Mukoro-Okpodu

So because it’s old, that means it’s bad???

    • fox_whisper85

Of course it’s not bad, it’s just Nintendo is only doing to this show they “care”. An elaborate fan service.

  • Auragar

Like I said with the pointless 3DS update stop pushing updates that don’t actually add anything new and changes things that a normal user doesn’t give a single crap about and others would rather you leave alone.

  • dathip

lol sold this trash 3 years ago. Going to get myself a switch. Keep on bringing the wii U ports like DK tropical freeze, bayonetta 2, and wonderful 101 just like you did with mk8 deluxe and pokken tournament dx

    • ≈ KobobKC ≈

Calls it trash but wants its games

      • dathip

yep! System itself was trash, the library….not so much(and that is debatable as well)

  • NeptuniasBeard

Hahah, whoops! I was just talking about how the Wii U was done with updates yesterday and then this happens. I jinxed us fam

  • Addy

Too bad my Wii U’s boxed up. Another exploit will be found two days from now anyway.

    • Pañuelo

      2 days. ok

  • nekoknight

I like the Wii U. It’s a shame it wasn’t that successful, but that was really Nintendo’s fault. If they had better games like Mario Maker and Splatoon early on in the console’s lifecycle, I think it would have done better.

  • Mansor murad

  • MoYeung

    Just updated my Wii U.

  • Blake Good

Thanks a lot, Nintendo! Now I can’t play VC games via Loadiine that are only available via Wii Mode!

  • fox_whisper85

Too bad for Nintendo I have Haxchi with CFW, so yeah, nice try, Nintendo XD I’m tempted to screenshot it in action and post it on NOA’s Twitter lol.

    • wisdomsprince

IF you have never done homebrew and did this update would you still be able to add homebrew? Haxchi or CFW or anything else?

      • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

if you have haxchi installed you can still use it but if dont you can not use homebrew

  • MagcargoMan

If they’re still doing updates for Wii U between this and the Smash update, maybe there’s hope for one more Mario Maker update.

  • jimmydabosh

Apparently if you do not have updates blocked via DNS and router this update removes the old internet browser and installs a new one on which 99% of homebrew applications will not work.
