Pokemon Sun/Moon – early gameplay details

GamesMaster went hands-on with Pokemon Sun/Moon in its latest issue, and wrote up an article about what to expect from the opening gameplay in the two titles. The information covers the beginning up through a portion of your arrival in Hau’oli.

There’s really nothing major here in terms of the story. Just to be on the safe side with spoilers though, we’ve posted the details roundup after the break.

– Video message is shown from Professor Kukui
– Kukui is your cousin and wants to introduce you to the world of Pokemon
– You can explore your bedroom first
– Your room has a TV showing “Four boys walking down railroad tracks”
– A Wii U and a globe are here as well
– Mom is downstairs and says “I still remember you battling the Indigo leaders”
– Cardboard moving boxes around her
– Head out of your beach house and come across a bridge
– Encounter Lillie on the bridge
– After a battle with several Spearow, you plummet, but the island guardian Tapu Koko saves you
– While heading back to town, Lillie says she’s Professor Kukui’s assistant
– Also says residents worship Tapu Koko for watching over Melemele Island
– This is one of several island/guardian pairings
– You’re next told to find the island leader Kahuna (Hala)
– Hala lets you choose your starter Pokemon
– A boy appears on your way back to show the starter you chose to your mom
– This is Hau, your rival
– He’ll battle you using a starter type you’re strongest against
– Another battle on the way back, this time with Youngster Jimmy
– Visit the first big city Hau’oli with Lillie
– She advises going to the Pokemon Research Lab on the way
– As you head to Hau’oli, you may see a Taurus blocking one route
– Hau’oli has a main street with vehicles on the side of the road, a shopping district, beachfront, ferry terminal, police station
– Order different items from the cafe in Pokemon Centers, such as pinap juice for restorative properties and Shalour Sable is a tasty shortbread used to heal status conditions
– Optional mission in the tourist bureau: get a Poke Finder, photograph 10 Pokemon for a prize
– Trainers’ School down the road
– This is sort of like a mini dungeon that has you finding and defeating four pupils and a teacher
– South of Hau’oli is the dock
– Battle against Team Skull here
