Update: And just like that, a retail version is confirmed:

Original: After originally launching on Wii U, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is now coming to Switch. WayForward announced the news today and stated that this new version is slated for the summer. HD Rumble will be supported.

It’s not yet known if Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will be receiving a physical release. The news comes directly from WayForward rather than XSEED though, so it could be digital-only.

    Is this worth playing?

    • jimmy

      Yes, yes it is

    • Jesiah Grant

Its good, but pirates curse is so so much better. 1/2 genie hero feels a little empty. The free updates and dlc should fill it in

      • James Fox

Chances are WayForward will integrate those in the switch release

        • Jesiah Grant

hell yeah id double dip on pirates curse, by far the best shantae

    • Dylan W

Absolutely! I beat it last week on my Wii U and loved it so much that I 100%-ed it. It even came with an amazing soundtrack that I’ve been listening to in my car for weeks. The only down side is that it is admittedly short but there are free DLC updates coming soon. After playing Half-Genie Hero, I really want to play the other games in the series. I hear that Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is the best entry so far.

Shantae should definitely get that skin exclusive on Switch.

    • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

oh i did get the skin unitl you said hehe

  • Coonfoot

I forgot to buy this for Wii U, so this is good news for me.

  • I am glad I waited. and not get the Wii U version

  • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

what kind of games is this? platforming like mario or more like a metroidvania style?

    • Dylan W

The other Shantae games are in a Metroidvania style. Half-Genie Hero is more of a straightforward platformer. She attacks by whipping enemies with her hair and she can transform into various animals.

      • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

what a shame, i would pick it up if it was a metrodvania

        • Vigilante_blade

It is still a very, very good game. Shantae games are on par with first party Nintendo games in terms of feel.

          • This is why I feel Nintendo should work with Wayforward into creating a 3D Shantae title specifically and exclusively for the Switch. Nintendo could just pay for the publishing while Wayforward handles the development……with a little help from Nintendo EAD

          • Vigilante_blade

I would love to see Wayforward as a second party developper working on Metroid or even a 2D Mario game personally.

          • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

really? this kind of good? i have to test it then, thank for the info

          • Stuart

Oh yeah, they are really good. I must say if they ever launch Pirate’s Curse on Switch that would be definitely a must-buy.

          • Vigilante_blade

If you are going to check it out, I’ll just give ya abit more info.

Most of the games in the series are Metroidvanias. This one does have Metroidvania elements like going back to previous levels, but is less of a Metroidvania as older games (likely due to it being a kickstarter and having to deal with several demands).

The animation is top notch as usual, and the controls feel extremely responsive. That’s why I’m comparing it to classic Nintendo. There is a lot of attention to detail and the controls are quite intuitve.

          • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

thank you very much, I am going to pick up one of the old ones in the wiiu and if I like the game I will wait for half hero in the Switch

  • Nowhere Man

They tweeted shortly after that they’re working with XSEEDS on a retail version, with details coming soon.

Cool! Now I can convince my friend to finally pick this up!

  • hi v3.0

    Ha I knew it!

  • Reggie

Good and good. Glad that I waited on this gem. Definitely getting this.

WayForward… welcome to the Nintendo Switch family!

  • Addy

Great, now I’ve got to throw away $30 for a slightly improved version of a game I already completed.

    • Adrian Brown

I mean, you don’t have to.

    • Dunnington

I hate it when someone holds me at gunpoint and forces me to buy a game that I already bought. Happens way too often.

  • As a big fan of the Shantae franchise I’ll definitely pick this up but I’m hoping they also release Pirate’s Curse for the Switch as well which is in my opinion the most enjoyable game in the entire franchise

  • SpectralDynamite

I think I might double dip for this. Loved it on Wii U.

  • O.H. X-1990

Oh good, Shantae Half-Genie Hero will come out on Nintendo Switch. But now I don’t know which of the Indie games will I buy, Shovel Knight or Shantae?

  • Thomas_NE

Awesome, I backed this game but never got to play it because the PS3 version is cancelled. It’ll be interesting to see if I can change it to a Switch version this late on.

  • Hermione Granger

another useless remake of a indie game, nintyfanboys must be desperate to play anything.

  • TheWeasel

Neat! I had been forgetting to get the Wii U version for some time now, but I will definitely go for this version now!
