Yooka-Laylee given a price on Switch

Posted on December 6, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch eShop

Yooka-Laylee will finally end up on Switch next week. And over in Europe, the game’s price point has been confirmed. The 3D platformer will cost €39.99 / £34.99, which should be $39.99.

Yooka-Laylee currently goes for the same amount on other digital marketplaces. The only tricky thing here is that physical copies on the likes of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One cost much less. As we know though, Yooka-Laylee has no physical version on Switch – at least for now.

This game’s gonna be deader than dead at that price.

game had to be $20 to even register.

  • Aline Piroutek

Too pricey in comparison to physical media prices of other consoles.

Okay so it’s the same price digital on every system but physical is much cheaper? Usually it’s the other way around, at least there is digital price parity if nothing else

On consoles that’s pretty much always the case.
Retailers (online retailers especially) are usually willing to lower their cut as much as possible to boost sales at launch and discount the game further after only a few months.
Meanwhile the digital game stays at MSRP on the official online stores, sometimes for years on end.

uh no way – was considering maybe getting it when I assumed it’d be 20 bucks – garbage price for that game

  • Pepperkeet

Hilarious, Enjoy not selling your garbage bois.

I expected 30, oh well … good luck over there

The physical copies are cheaper? Huh?!
There’s no way I’m gonna pay that. Now if they game was only $19.99, then I probably would buy it. Sheesh, gaming these days is getting to be just too expensive…

  • Burning Gravity

a bit late for that price, naw? this is why you gotta go with either launch parity (release it at the same time) or price parity (release a late port at whatever price the game is currently typically going for on other platforms) and always feature parity (the game should not be missing features or otherwise notably inferior to the other versions) or it doesn’t really work, lol.

Pass. Not gonna buy a digital copy of Yooka-Laylee when a physical copy of the same game for PS4 costs only £10ish for example.

  • Padre

Waiting for physical, then I might go for it.

  • BK-201

that should be the price for physical version, that game’s just not worth 40$
20$ would be perfect for what it is and this comes from a kickstarter Wii U version backer

  • R.Z.

I guess that’s fair since that’s the same price as on other systems.
    It’s still pretty expensive.
But I’m waiting for the physical version anyway. I’d pay up to 50€ for that but I’m willing to bet it will be available below 40€, as usual.

    • LB

it’s not the same price. It’s actually half the price since a new copy of Yooka-Laylee for PS4 or XBO is $19.99

      • R.Z.

        I meant digitally.

  • Roto Prime

    No hard copy? ;________; Why?!

  • dbizal

And there’s me sitting on a digital copy that I paid for way back when the kickstarter launched.,, Paid less than this anyway but still. Wish I didn’t back it now to be honest. My hype died with the WiiU version.

  • Coonfoot

Guess they gotta make up for the low sales of the physical versions.

  • SpectralDynamite

If I’m being totally honest, this merely delays my purchase rather than kill it outright. I want this game, dammit.

  • kinda glad this trainwreck didn’t make it to wiiu

  • MagcargoMan

Wow, I made a comment here yesterday and it “needed to go through moderation”. Brian, why isn’t it through yet?

  • Adrian Brown

    I was hoping for $20, well…
