Another round of Fire Emblem Echoes details – Mila’s Gear, Berkut, gameplay, classes
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is featured in Famitsu this week, and Serenes Forest went to the trouble of translating the new information. Continue on below for a roundup of details from the magazine.
Mila’s Gear
– Mila’s Gear: valuable contraption that can peer into the past and the future
 – Use this to rewind the actions of units one unit at a time
 – Ex: Mae gets KO’d by a Mercenary on Turn 1; rewind back to before the Mercenary attacked and try again
 – There are limits and it can’t be easily abused
 – Gear icon in the bottom-right corner of the bottom screen is related to Mila’s Gear
 – The number may indicate the number of actions you can rewind
 – As previously mentioned, also use Mila’s Gear with amiibo
Berkut
– Voice Actor: Tatsuhisa Suzuki
 – Rigelian Emperor’s nephew
 – Advocate of the nobility who prizes his social standing
 – Convinced Desaix to turn traitor and instigate the Zofian coup d’etat
 – Vying to be the next emperor and commands the invasion of Zofia to prove his military prowess
 – Seems like Berkut will be filling in the role of villain or rival
 – In one screenshot, he can be seen colluding with Desaix, the Zofian traitor
Story
– At the start of the game, Alm is living in Ram Village, near the borders of the Kingdom of Zofia
 – At this point in time, Zofia has been taken over by Desaix, a vile man who orchestrated the assassination of the royal family
 – A group of Zofian nobility create the Deliverance, an army that fights to free Zofia from Rigelian control
 – One fateful day, Lukas, a member of the Deliverance visits Ram Village to recruit soldiers
 – Alm and his friends then meet
 – Although they’re all inexperienced in the world, they decide to join the Deliverance for their own reasons and rally under Alm
 – Meanwhile, far away on the island of Novis, Alm’s dear friend Celica also sets off on a journey
 – The lands have been plagued by mysterious happenings, such as poor harvests and increased sightings of monsters known as Terrors
 – After Celica has a ominous dream about Alm, she realizes something isn’t right
 – Along with her close friends she sets off towards the Temple of Mila to seek answers
 – Meets sellswords and other travelers who end up joining her cause throughout the journey
Gameplay
– After characters reach a certain Level, they can change class
 – This allows for stats to be increased
 – No item is needed unlike past games
 – Instead you need to visit a Mila statue
 – Most classes have a defined path, but Villagers can change into many classes
 – Villager -> Cavalier/Soldier/Mercenary/Archer/Mage
 – Mage -> Sage (male)/Priestess (female)
 – The classes in Gaiden include many Fire Emblem staples, but with a few differences
Villager: A common villager with poor combat abilities, but they have a lot of potential. Wields swords.
Cavalier: Mounted knights with exceptional movement, but struggle to move through tricky terrain. Wields lances.
Soldier: An orthodox foot-soldier with balanced offensive and defensive stats, but excels in neither. Wields lances.
Mercenary: A professional combatant with amazing speed and skill, likely to unleash critical hits. Wields swords.
Archer: Can attack foes from distance using their arrows. In this game, they can attack nearby too. Wields bows.
Cleric: A devout maiden adept with healing and supportive White Magic, but weak at combat and ill-suited at the front-lines.
Mage: A powerful wielder of Black Magic. Can bypass terrain effects and launch powerful attacks from a distance.
Knight: A promoted Soldier. Encased in heavy armour, they have exceptional defensive capabilities, but poor speed and movement.
Priestess: A promoted female Mage. Can fight with swords and cast White and Black Magic. Also Celica’s initial class.
