Princess Peach alternate look revealed before design was finalized
Princess Peach has a design that’s famous today, but the character could have gone in a very different direction.
On Twitter this week, mangaka Gaku Miyao shared a photo of some Mario merchandise he worked on before Peach had a standardized design (see above). This was before the look we now know of was fully established.
Via a translation from Twitter user gosokkyu, Miyao went on to highlight the images below, mentioning how these two graphics were the only ‘official reference materials’ for Peach. However, since they weren’t sufficient for girls’ merchandise, he faxed some rough sketches to Nintendo and ended up getting approval.
Miyao closed out his story by noting how if his look for Peach had taken root, the character might look like the following image today:
