Square Enix has provided a fairly steady stream of HD-2D games since 2018, but the company is also a bit wary about flooding the market with those types of titles.

We already know that after the recent release of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Dragon Quest 1 and 2 are set to receive the same treatment next year. Producer Masaaki Hayasaka told Bloomberg that he’d also “love to consider” remakes for other entries as well. However, that will depend on reactions to Dragon Quest 3, and Square Enix doesn’t want to go overboard with HD-2D games at once.

Hayasaka said the following in an interview with Bloomberg:

“If we were to release too many games in succession, that would lead to people being bored of those games. On the flipside, if there’s too much of a span between launches, that can also lead to the series not seeming as vibrant and robust anymore. It’s a sensitive topic. It’s something that even my supervisors are constantly unsure and mulling over.”

Something Hayasaka also said this week is that he’d be interested in seeing Final Fantasy 6 HD-2D Remake in the future. You can read about that here.

Those interested in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake can pick it up now on Nintendo Switch.
