Nintendo says previous tariffs were not factored into Switch 2’s $450 price tag
More Nintendo quotes are emerging regarding Switch 2 pricing, and now it’s confirmed that previous tariffs were not factored into the console’s price.
Doug Bowser, president at Nintendo of America, shared that news in an interview with The Verge. He told the outlet:
“Any previous tariffs were not factored into the [$449.99] price itself. … The news (about tariffs) is fresh, and like many companies right now, we are actively assessing what the impact may be.”
The Verge would later press Bowser further on the price. He pointed to things like the system’s bigger LCD screen, its added power, the Joy-Con controllers that have been “enlarged and redesigned for durability,” the new GameChat feature, and more.
As part of that interview, Bowser noted:
“We want to make sure that this is a device that is approachable, that consumers will see as part of their overall entertainment experiences and will understand that it has longevity to it. And all of those factors really go into the consideration of the price.”
We also heard from Nintendo about game prices as well, including Mario Kart World costing $80. Check out those quotes here.
