Hogwarts Legacy has a Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade for Switch 1 players
Heads up for Hogwarts Legacy players on Nintendo Switch 1 – there’s currently an upgrade available for the Switch 2 version.
Technically this is not the traditional “Upgrade Pack” that the upcoming console will be receiving for multiple games. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 version just received a listing on the Nintendo eShop today which appears to have set things in motion. It seems that if you’ve bought the game, you can pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 version for $10. Right now Hogwarts Legacy for Switch 1 is on sale for $17.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
If you have the physical version, we’re hearing that the same upgrade should be available. Make sure you’ve downloaded the latest patch, boot it up, and access the “additional content” section – you should be able to initiate a download and then nab the $10 upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2.
Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch 2 will be a substantial improvement. In the graphics department, developer Avalanche Software made upgrades across the board, and the game is confirmed to be using DLSS. There’ll also be optional mouse controls, improved load times, and controls. Hogwarts Legacy was segmented on Nintendo Switch, but the Switch 2 version will feature the proper open world.
Because Hogwarts Legacy is in some ways pretty different on the upcoming console, it’s not even being labeled as a “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition”. We’re assuming that’s why this isn’t your typical Upgrade Pack.
Hogwarts Legacy will be available for Nintendo Switch 2 launch day on June 5, 2025.
