[Let’s Talk] Will you be using GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2?

Posted on May 24, 2025 by (@NE_Brian) in Let's Talk, Switch 2

One of the big new features Nintendo is touting for Switch 2 is GameChat. In fact, there’s even a button dedicated entirely to the functionality on the controller. You’ll need to be a Nintendo Switch Online member in order to use it, though it will be free initially – just for a limited time.

If you haven’t heard about GameChat previously, it’s pretty easy to understand. It’s basically a way for you to connect with friends online – up to twelve people can communicate. Additionally, if you connect a compatible USB-C camera, you can see each other while playing. Another neat wrinkle is the ability to share your screen in real time.

GameChat isn’t for everyone of course. Some will simply prefer playable alone, and that’s okay. But that brings us to today’s question – will you be using GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2? What are your thoughts on the service? Let us know in the comments.

Highlights from last week’s topic: Which Nintendo Switch 2 games are you picking up at launch?

I personally plan on picking up Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, and Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. One of the latter two might end up having to wait depending on what money looks like, but that’s currently my plan.

There would be more, but I’m not picking up game key card releases. At least not right away, and I’ll just do it digitally at that point since I don’t resell games.

Fast Fusion is something I may get not long after launch. Plus, I’ll have the upgrades for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom and the first three Gamecube games on account of having NSO+Expansion Pack.

BotW upgrade and Gamecube NSO games for me. Looking forward to DK Bananza and Prime 4 though. Hoping to get the GameCube NSO controller also.

I have grumbled a bit here and elsewhere about the S2 launch year lineup… and I hate $80 MKW and the “game-key-card or 64GB card” situation Nintendo has arranged for 3rd-parties (which affects players and collectors most of all).

That being said, Nintendo sent me the “Wanna buy S2 from us?” e-mail last week, so of course I bought the MKW bundle Console + GameCube Controller. Price will never go down, so we might as well buy now! S2 will have so much great stuff to play … eventually.

At launch, we’ll have
– 1. the $50 pack-in version of MKW (which is a reasonable price)
– 2. Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma
– 3. Fast Fusion
– 4. GameCube NSO games! (Z:WW, F-Zero GX, SC2)

Then in June-July:
– 5. RAIDOU Remastered
– 6. DK Bananza

After that in 2025: Story of Seasons, Daemon x Machina 2, Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders

I won’t be buying any of the paid upgrades for S1 or old multiplat games my kids and I have already played. I’ll sometimes buy a 20-year old game remastered (like RAIDOU), but not a 3-year old game. So, we have a list of nine decent-to-very good new games I look forward to playing on S2 in 2025… 4 Nintendo games, 3 Marvelous games (!), 1 Atlus & 1 indie. I’m also counting on this S2 purchase as an investment in future joy, from even better lists of 2026 and 2027 games not-yet-announced. Can’t wait!

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I beat Breath of the Wild back in 2018 but by the time I beat the 120th shrine, I was exhausted with the game and never picked up the DLC or the sequel. The glow-up it gets with the Switch 2 sounds about as good a time as any to get back into it.

I can wait with the new Mario Kart. 8 still has plenty of life within it yet.
