Nintendo Pictures worked on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Here’s an interesting tidbit that may come as a surprise: Nintendo Pictures worked on the PS5 title Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. That information comes from the game’s credits.
You may have forgotten about Nintendo Pictures, which was officially established in 2022. The group was formed after Nintendo acquired the visual content company Dynamo Pictures. The original announcement mentioned that Nintendo Pictures would make visual content based on Nintendo IP, but Death Stranding 2 certainly isn’t that.
Death Stranding 2 has credits for several Nintendo Pictures employees. These include a motion capture director, motion capture advisor, motion capture editors, and motion capture coordinators.
It’s unclear if this is a one-time exception. Dynamo Pictures previously worked on the original Death Stranding, so this could have been a holdover from before the Nintendo takeover. Nintendo Pictures has only worked on Nintendo game content since 2022, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG, and Another Code: Recollection.
It’s worth mentioning that Nintendo Pictures’ website lists “motion capture recording services” separately from video production using Nintendo IP. The group has contributed to non-Nintendo animation projects since 2022, including motion capture and CG production assistance for Toei Animation’s Pretty Cure anime.
