New details allegedly revealed about Nintendo and Amazon’s dispute

We recently heard that Amazon finally began selling Nintendo products in the United States again after a lengthy period in which the two sides weren’t working together. New details have now surfaced about what actually happened behind-the-scenes.

According to Bloomberg, the dispute between the companies stemmed from third-party sellers who were undercutting Nintendo’s games prices. This led to Nintendo Switch 2 not being available on Amazon when the system launched last month.

Nintendo pulled its official products from the marketplace, claiming unfair competition as resellers were offering prices lower than what the company itself could match. The report mentions that some of these sellers were reportedly sourcing large quantities of Nintendo goods from Southeast Asia and exporting them to the U.S. to sell at reduced prices through Amazon.

Consequently, Nintendo product listings gradually began disappearing from the platform, something that had already been reported, with official items instead being offered by third-party partners rather than Amazon itself.

In response, Amazon attempted to win Nintendo back by proposing the use of authenticity tags, a method already used for other product lines to verify legitimacy. However, Bloomberg reports that this effort wasn’t enough, and “Nintendo ultimately chose to pull its products from Amazon in the U.S.”

Despite the noticeable disappearance of Nintendo products sold and shipped directly by Amazon, both the Big N and the marketplace giant have denied the allegations. In fact, both Nintendo and Amazon have issued statements addressing the matter.

Nintendo said: “There is no such fact. We do not disclose details of negotiations or contracts with retailers.” Meanwhile, Amazon said the claims were “inaccurate” and said it was “pleased to offer Nintendo products directly to our customers as part of our commitment to providing an exceptional shopping experience with the widest selection possible.”

Although both companies maintain that there’s no issue between them, Nintendo Switch 2 remains unavailable on Amazon’s U.S. storefront. Interestingly, the system can still be found on Amazon in several other regions, including Canada and the UK.
