Nintendo Switch outsold DS

Switch just officially took the crown as Nintendo’s best-selling gaming system of all time.

The company reported its financial results moments ago in which we found out that the device is now at 155.37 units sold worldwide. Previously, DS was the record holder for Nintendo at 154.02 million units. So indeed, Nintendo Switch has climbed the mountain – although there’s still technically one obstacle to clear.

The only thing stopping Nintendo Switch for the industry as a whole is the PlayStation 2. Sony was no longer reporting numbers for that console by March 2012, but at that point, its total sales sat at over 155 million. But then in 2024, we heard that the figure had since increased to 160.63 million. It might be tough for Nintendo Switch to surpass that since Switch 2 is out on the market, though Switch 1 is still available worldwide and there isn’t any news about production ending anytime soon.
